Henry Clay Sr. (April 12, 1777 – June 29, 1852) was an American attorney and statesman who represented Kentucky in both the Senate and House. Captain John Postlethwait opened his hotel in Lexington, Ky. in the late 18th century. After two fires, the hotel was rebuilt in around 1820 and renamed the Phoenix Hotel. A Dutch contractor who established a colony in what is today Morehouse Parish. He did this at the suggestion of Gov. Carondelet.
